Beginnings of tool acquisition

Stone has recently starting becoming interested in tools. He spends his meals grappling with the spoons and forks we give him. Most of the time they are oddly shaped drumsticks but every once in a while he uses them to stab food. This week he figured out how to free the sippy cup's straw from the evil plastic lock of doom. Unfortunately he doesn't understand that the straw was locked up for a reason and thus drains the sippy cup whenever he leaves it on its side (IE after every sip). Mom also claims that he is really into stacking wooden blocks. I've only seen them used as percussion instrument or a tool to smash Daddy's face in so I guess I'm going to have to take her word on it.

My photo gallery (http://neversphere.com/g2) should be getting updates much more frequently. I just installed a phone to gallery upload program which lets me upload pictures as I take them. I also just got an eyefi sd card for my camera so photos are automatically uploaded from my normal camera whenever I'm in wifi range. It's rather spiffy. If I only had photoshop on my server then I'd never had to use my desktop for photography.

I know it's a bit late but here is a short movie of Stone's first birthday:

I figure I might as well use this whole internet thingy to post some videos of Stone. It's kinda amazing how quickly he has grown. Here is a video from just a two months ago:

Here is one from about 5 mins ago:

In two months he went from barely crawling around and being able to only grasp things with his whole hand to flying around on the floor (when not standing) and being able to pick up objects with just a thumb and finger.

First steps

Facts:
   My memory is rather poor
My son is maturing at an alarming rate
I'd probably like to keep a record of his first years so I can look back upon it when I'm 64
Relatives and friends would like to keep up with Stone as they live out of state
   I hate repeating myself

It seems like I'm going to have to start writing a blog again. Since I don't have exams or anything requiring massive amounts of procrastination I probably won't be posting as often as I once did but I'll try to throw something up from time to time.

Previous milestones:
Crying
Breathing
Recognizing his eyes could be controlled by pure thought
Realizing his hand weren't a malicious entitiy out to get him but could also be controlled by pure thought
Determining that smiling was the best way to ensure he was not dropped off at an orphanarium
Using newly acquired eye-hand coordination to put most everything in his mouth

Most recent major milestone:
First steps
I wouldn't call his first steps graceful. They were more like as a frantic effort to defeat gravity and not smash in his face while he moved upright from the couch to the ottoman. It worked and was awesome.

That's all for now.
